Finally England end their drought at Lord's as they beat Australia by 115 runs in the 2nd test, their first Ashes win in 75-years on Monday, 20th July, 2009 at London. Andrew Flintoff took 5/92 his final test at Lord's as England took 1-0 lead in the 5 match series.

England needed 5 wickets and Australia needed 209 runs on the final day to win the test and Flintoff took the wicket of Brad Haddin 80 in his first over of the day, then Swann bowled centurion Clarke on 136 runs. Mitchel Johnson shown some resistance with 63 runs but wickets on the other hand gives England historical 115 runs win.

Andrew Flintoff awarded Man of the Match award for his fine bowling in his last test match at famous Lord's ground as he retiring from test after current Ashes Series.

In a very tensed and thrilling first test of match Ashes Series between host England and Australia, Paul Collingwood and James Anderson batted brilliantly under pressure to draw the match for England with 1 wicket remaining on 5th and final day of 1st test match.

England reduced to 159/7 still 40 overs remained to survive, then Collingwood and Graem Swann batted 19 overs before later got out and left England to struggle another 19 overs. But then Anderson played confidently for another 8 overs when Collingwood out with still 12 overs remaining and they are trailing by 4 runs.

Monty Panesar then played inning of his life faced 35 balls under pressure and put 19 runs for the last wicket with Anderson and saved the match for England.

Australia dominated the 4th day of first test match declared their 1st inning on 674/6
with Marcus North and Brad Hadding scored centuries with 125 not out and 121 runs respectively. Then Australia took 2 crucial wicket and give England a daunting task to save the match on 5th and final day of the match with 8 wickets in hand.

1st test 3rd day Summary:

Australia continued their dominance in the 1st test as they took 44 runs lead in the 1st wicket with 5 wickets in hand at the stump of day 3 in the 1st test match. Katich and Ponting made 122 and 150 runs respectively. Then Michael Clarke and North score 83 and 54 not out respectively.

1st test 2nd day Summary:

Australia bounced back strongly after England tail enders added 99 runs in 15 overs to take the total to 435 in 1st inning, with the brilliant centuries by Simon Katich, his 8th and captain Ricky Ponting, his 38th as they were unbeaten on 104 and 100 runs respectively and put 189 runs for the 2nd wicket.

1st test 1st day Summary:

For England Pietersen made 69 and well contributed by Collingwood and Prior with 64 runs and 56 runs respectively. For Australia Johnson Hilfenhaus and Siddle took 2 wickets each.

Two bitter rivals Australia and England begin their oldest 122 years rivalry, The Ashes, as first test match of 5 match series starts from Wednesday, 8th July, to Sunday, 12th July, 2009 at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff starting from 11:00 local, 10:00 GMT, 3.00 PM IST.

Australia got a set back just ahead of the 1st test as Brett Lee is out at least from 2 test matches due to chest injury and Mitchel Johnson and Sturat Clarke has to take extra responsibility. They will be without their star perform in previous white wash Shane Warne, McGrath and Gilchrist.
